Kathy served on the Commonwealth of Virginia Governor's Commission on Physical Fitness and Sport. Senator George Allen (former Governor of VA) and his wife Susan and Denise Austin spearheaded this commission.

          Kathy carried and lit the torch for the

Opening  Ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games of Virginia.
 

Kathy did a Powerlifting demonstration for the Opening Ceremony of the 10th Annual Commonwealth Games of Virginia. She repped out 225 pounds non-stop for 20 seconds. This event was attended by over 11,000 athletes and was shown on live television.
 

Billy Mills, American Indian, Olympic Champion Billy became the first and only American to win a Gold Medal in the 10,000 Meter Run, with a stunning-come-from-behind-finish, creating one of the greatest upsets in Olympic History at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Setting an Olympic record of 28 minutes 24.4 seconds. .
